Day 4 - Feelings & Emotions
Context for Day 4
Anger: The Feeling in the Present vs The Emotion from the Past
Being ‘angry’ is not all the same, there are 2 forms of anger. Old and present.
When you say, “I’m angry about what happened last month,” or “I’ve been carrying anger for years,” you are often talking about something different from the anger that is alive in your body right now.
This distinction changes everything.
Present-moment anger is a feeling. It is your body responding to something happening now. It carries information. It tells you that something matters, that a boundary has been crossed, that something needs your attention.
Emotional anger is different.
Emotional anger comes from the past. It is anger that never had the space, safety, or permission to be fully felt and expressed. It stays inside the body, waiting for an opportunity to be recognised and released.
Neither is bad. Both are important. They simply have different purposes.
-
When anger is connected to the present moment, it is clear and direct.
Something happens, and your body responds. Someone crosses a boundary. Something feels unfair.
A need is ignored. A value is not respected. This anger is alive, moving, and connected to what is happening right now.
When you allow yourself to fully feel it, it has energy and information. It helps you take action, communicate clearly, and protect what matters to you.
Anger is not here to destroy. Anger is here to show you that something matters.
-
Most of us have never been taught how to feel anger.
Many people grew up learning that anger was dangerous, unacceptable, or something to hide. Maybe you were told to calm down, be nice, stop being difficult, or not make a fuss.
Maybe you watched others express anger in ways that felt unsafe. Over time, anger that was not allowed to move through the body became stored.
This is emotional anger.
When you begin exploring your anger, it is very common that old anger starts to surface. It may not only be your own anger from past experiences. It may also include the anger you witnessed, absorbed, or adapted to while growing up.The anger that appears today may carry layers of experiences from yesterday.
-
Have you ever had a reaction that felt much bigger than the situation itself?Someone says something small, and suddenly you feel an overwhelming wave of anger.
The intensity does not always belong to this moment. Your body may be remembering something older.
A current situation can open the door to anger that has been waiting underneath for years. This does not mean your anger is wrong.
It means there is something asking to be felt, understood, and completed.
-
Instead of immediately judging your anger or trying to push it away, begin becoming curious.
Ask yourself:
“Is this anger about what is happening right now?”Or:
“Is this anger carrying something from my past?”
Both answers are valuable.lt is not about get rid of anger. It is about building a relationship with your anger.
To discover its language, sensations, information.
-
When we don’t understand our anger, it often takes control.
We may explode.
We may shut down.
We may blame others.
We may turn the anger against ourselves.
We may pretend everything is fine while something inside us is screaming.
When you learn to feel and hold space for your anger, you create space between the feeling and your reaction. Build RESPONSE - ABILITY
That space gives you a choice.
Instead of being controlled by anger, you can listen to it and respond consciously.
-
Anger is not the enemy. Anger is a powerful life force.
It carries information about your boundaries, your values, your needs, and what matters deeply to you. Present anger helps you navigate this moment.
Emotional anger invites you to heal what the past could not complete.
The more you practise to meet your anger with curiosity and presence, the less it needs to take over your life unconsciously. This is where your relationship with anger begins to transform.
Practice for TODAY:
Do you use the words overwhelm? Or other words:
feeling low, grumpy, frustrated…
Those are all emotions, mixed in the past and if you are leading your life from your emotions then you will continue recreating your life from the past.
Becoming aware of your emotions is a huge step to notice the recurring patterns and then take a step to heal them.
(We will offer you possibilities on how to step into healing in the telegram group).
TODAY:
Notice any emotions bubbling up and you wanting to say I feel overwhelmed or low… or hear yourself say it …notice and take a pause, that already shifts your state. If a feeling stays for longer than 3 min you are having an emotion.
Write about this experience and begin your personal researching.
